All you need to know about finding and opening items in an Outlook Data File

In 1996, SabeerBathia and Jack Smith founded the Windows Live Hotmail service. It quickly became in one of the best free webmail services around the world due to its awesome tools. In those times, it provided users with some interesting features, such as virus scanning, spam filters, calendars, contact lists, and more.  Of course, it was known for its ability to send and receive email messages. Even if it included many features, most of the people used it as an email application.

The following year, the Windows Live Hotmail service was sold to Microsoft Corporation and renamed as Outlook.com. After acquiring this free email service, Microsoft introduced more new features for users. Nowadays, Hotmail.com is much more than a free email service. It can also be considered as a personal information manager and work with other Microsoft services such as Microsoft Exchange Server. Another of its functions consists of finding items in an Outlook Data File(.pst.)

What do I have to know about finding and opening items in an Outlook Data File?

To begin, it is very important for you to understand that all your email account information was stored in a Hotmail file. Of course, this is only possible if you create an IMAP or POP account. In addition to this, you have the option of using a Hotmail file to backup all your email messages or store them. If you do this, you have the possibility to keep the size of your personal mailbox small without any problem.

On the other hand, if you are using search features, Email has the ability to search to search the current mailbox and nothing else. Apart from this, if you are interested in looking for other Hotmail files stored on your desktop device, you are required to change to change your search scope to the All Mailboxes option. If this is not the case, you will not be allowed to search other Hotmail files.

Conversely, if you are using the AutoArchive feature with your Microsoft Exchange Server account, you have the option of having an e-mail file. However, it is important not to confuse the AutoArchive feature with the Archive option, which was available for some versions of Hotmail.
